Licensing is usually based on a contractual agreement between two business entities, that is, the owner or agent of the property, also known as the licensor and the renter on the rights, and the prospective licensee who is usually a manufacturer.

A Software License is a contract between a software publisher and an end-user of software. A software license grants an end-user permission to use one or more copies of software in ways which would otherwise be prohibited by law. Such a license is required if the end-user wishes to make use of a copy of software.
Why do we need License?
License provides the user the legitimate right to use software. Any software should be used legally by the users, for preventing any illegal or unwarranted use of the software.
By using license, one can access all the features of the product. If the product is an illegal or a pirated version, we cannot access all the features of the product.
Using license will also benefit the concerned organization as the user pays amount for purchasing and using the product legally.

In corporate where software products are used by many users, it is the responsibility of the concerned organization to obtain license. If not legal action will be taken against the organization for illegalize of the product.
